Meet the Instructors

Inis Acla was founded in 1991 by sisters Mary McGinty and Kathleen McGinty Lane.


Mary McGinty

A.D.C.R.G. and T.C.R.G.

Mary McGinty is co-founder, owner, choreographer, and teacher of Inis Acla School of Irish Dance and has been teaching for almost 30 years. Mary is a certified teacher and adjudicator by An Comisiún le Rincí Gaelacha. She herself did Irish dancing as a child, was a champion dancer, and has Irish roots as her father and mother both immigrated from Ireland. 

Mary opened the Inis Acla School of Irish Dance in Memphis, TN in 1992 to promote the beautiful art form of Irish Dance in the Mid South. She also opened and taught at Inis Acla in Augusta, GA for several years. She received her T.C.R.G. in 1981 and A.D.C.R.G. in 2002. She has served as Regional Director for the Southern Region as well as being a representative to CLRG. Mary is also a doctor at LeBonheur Children's Hospital and has two children.  


Kathleen McGinty Lane

Kathleen McGinty Lane is co-founder, owner, choreographer and teacher at Inis Acla School of Irish Dance. Originally from Cleveland, Kathleen opened Inis Acla's first location in Cleveland, OH in 1991. She opened Inis Acla's fourth location in Savannah, GA in 1994. Inis Acla's Savannah location was later given to former Inis Acla dancer Abbey Pride Wood. Abbey changed the name of her school after two years, but she has maintained an Irish dance school in Savannah since its initial inception as Inis Acla. 

Kathleen had a successful competitive career as a champion Irish dancer. Kathleen received her T.C.R.G. in 1986 and A.D.C.R.G. in 1998. She has served as Regional Director for the Mid America Region, amongst various other positions on the Board. She is an experienced teacher with a demonstrated history of working in education with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in History from Georgetown University and a Master of Arts (M.A.) focused in English Composition and Criticism from Cleveland State University. Kathleen is currently an ELA teacher in New York Cty where she lives with her husband and her son.


Lydia Wilkens-Reed


Lydia Wilkens-Reed is the founding instructor of the Nashville, Tennessee location. She started Irish dancing at the age of 4 years old at Inis Acla under the instruction of Mary McGinty. Lydia went on to dance with NISD under the instruction of Mary Moran through her college years. Lydia is a Southern Region Oireachtas Champion and 10 time World Qualifier. Her love for Irish dance shines through in her dancing and teaching. Lydia became a certified Irish dance teacher, T.C.R.G., in April of 2020.

She has a strong background in education, holding a Master of Education (M.Ed.) from Vanderbilt University. Lydia aims to bring a fresh, positive, and creative energy to her classes. Her goals are to promote excellence, character development, and confidence. Lydia is a full-time music teacher with MNPS and a cello instructor at Covenant Conservatory of Music.
